What do we do

We have around 100 people who look after payments into and out of the Fund.

We pay 75,000 pensioners and have a further 130,000 members either paying into the Fund or waiting to retire.

The money in the Fund is invested across the globe to ensure there’s always enough money to pay the pensions of all our members and to help lower the costs to employers.

The office is comprised of a number of teams, each with a different role:

  • A Customer Service team, responsible for our callcentre, communications and face to face counter service.
  • A Benefit Processing team, responsible for calculating the benefits for the Local Government, Police and Fire pension schemes.
  • A Systems & Compliance team, who provide support and maintenance services to the other teams.
  • A Payments team, who pay pensioners their lump sums and monthly pensions.
  • An Investments team, who monitor our finances and investments.
  • A Member Records team, who are responsible for our data.

Management and responsibility

The day-to-day running of the Fund is carried out by the Strathclyde Pension Fund Office. The administering authority is Glasgow City Council who is legally responsible for the Fund and for making payments.

The pension scheme’s regulations - how your payments are calculated, and so on - are set by central government. Ultimately, decisions affecting your payments are made by the Government, while decisions affecting the strength of the Fund are made by Glasgow City Council.
