GCC proudly hosts the CLASS Group AGM…

On 26 June 2008 Glasgow City Council proudly hosted the CLASS (Computerised Local Authority Superannuation System) Annual General Meeting.

The AGM is a focal point for everything that has been happening IT-wise in the world of local government pensions administration over the previous year.

The event was preceded by a formal civic dinner hosted by the Lord Provost and a ceilidh in the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum the previous evening.

At the AGM delegates were treated to presentations, including one from our own Chief Pensions Officer Andy Knox who is part of the CLASS management team, about how to bring new IT developments into an organisation, how schemes from different parts of the UK use their IT and what new developments are on the horizon.

From a contributing employer’s perspective, improvements in IT may soon:

· Allow them to read and change data about their employees that is held on Strathclyde Pension Fund’s system.
· Deliver increased support in performing calculations for their employees.
· Offer increased efficiency, improved service and reduced costs, particularly in multi-employment situations.

Strathclyde Pension Fund’s Anne Kilcoyne, who co-ordinated the arrangements on behalf of GCC, summed up the event:

“It was a valuable opportunity to network and share experiences with my peers from around the UK and to take time out to think about where our own pensions admin could be going in the near future”.
