If you are thinking about taking your Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS) benefits before 1 April 2010, we would draw your attention to the following:
• All of the paperwork and the necessary processing need to have been completed pre Apr 2010.
• It is not sufficient to have requested a retirement.
• From the Revenue’s point of view a “benefits crystallisation event” must have taken place.
We would therefore suggest that if you are thinking about taking your pension benefits before April 2010 you move quickly.
