Pensions for Councillors Introduced

Amendment regulations extending membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme to councillors duly came into force in Scotland on 2nd May 2007. Implementation of the scheme for councillor members was a business priority listed in the Strathclyde Pension Fund Office 2007/08 Business Plan. The implementation plan included:
· revision to standard forms, systems and procedures;
· production of briefing notes and revised scheme literature;
· staff training within Strathclyde Pension Fund Office; and
· liaison with each of the twelve councils which participate in the Fund including offer of a presentation to their elected members.

All necessary steps were completed ahead of schedule and the SPFO successfully opened the scheme to councillor members immediately after the Council elections on 3rd May.
